Crew Member Job Description

  • Guest Contact positions include Cashiers, Ordertakers, Customer Service Representatives and Expeditors who work directly with guests. Strong communications skills, friendly personality and a desire to please the guest are required. No prior experience required but is helpful.
  • Kitchen positions include Cooks, sandwich makers and prep staff who prepare the food to the high quality standards of the company. Ability to read and follow recipes is required along with an ability to maintain high quality production in a busy environment.
  • Support positions include Bussers and Dishwashers who support the restaurant by maintaining a clean environment and following sanitation requirements. These jobs require high energy.

Minimum Requirements for Crew Member Positions

1. 16 or older depending on position
2. Work permit may be required by state law or local ordinance
3. Weekend availability may be required

My sister told me, “We are going to eat today at the best of the fast food restaurants in Chicago” and this is the way I got to know the famous Portillo’s. I became in-love with the system and didn’t rest until I was hired. I started to work for them in April 2002 at the Glendale Heights location. While working at the Schaumburg location I saw a sign for two positions open at the Corporate office. I applied for the filing clerk position in the Payroll Department. After six months in that position, they recognized my interest in learning the payroll system at which time they began training me on the payroll procedures. I started with handling two stores and this was the start to my new career.
