Crew Member Job Description

  • Guest Contact positions include Cashiers, Ordertakers, Customer Service Representatives and Expeditors who work directly with guests. Strong communications skills, friendly personality and a desire to please the guest are required. No prior experience required but is helpful.
  • Kitchen positions include Cooks, sandwich makers and prep staff who prepare the food to the high quality standards of the company. Ability to read and follow recipes is required along with an ability to maintain high quality production in a busy environment.
  • Support positions include Bussers and Dishwashers who support the restaurant by maintaining a clean environment and following sanitation requirements. These jobs require high energy.

Minimum Requirements for Crew Member Positions

1. 16 or older depending on position
2. Work permit may be required by state law or local ordinance
3. Weekend availability may be required

Glenda Knippen

I started with Portillo’s in the summer of 1967 in the original hot dog stand in Villa Park, IL making sandwiches and running the cash register. In 1971, Dick asked me if I wanted to be his bookkeeper, and, of course, I said "yes!" I worked at the first corporate office, which was in the basement of the Glendale Heights location. I was Dick’s girl friday for many years until he opened up his 7th store and the office needed to expand. At that time, my job responsibilities included accounting, payroll, insurance, Dick’s assistant, and any other office work that needed to be done. Since 1971, I have advanced my career and worked in many departments. Currently, I run the Benefits department and enjoy helping the employees with their insurance and 401(k). Even after 40 years, I love working at Portillo’s and I couldn’t have made a better choice for a career.
