The Senior Accountant will support the preparation of GAAP financial statements. This position will have a direct report and play an integral role in supporting the operations of the business, facilitating the timely completion and analysis of financial results and accounting transactions, and understanding of internal and external requirements to ensure accurate reporting. This is a collaborative role that will work cross-functionally with various departments while continuing to uphold our company purpose, values, and business strategy.

·       Supervise and coach 1 staff accountant direct report ensuring work is completed in a timely and accurate manner

·       Work with the direct report to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance the professional development of the staff

·       Work cross functionally with departments throughout the company

·       Assist in preparing supporting schedules for external auditors and responding to audit inquiries including financial schedules, analysis, or other disclosures

  • Responsible for general ledger accounting, including but not limited to real estate taxes, lease accounting, sales tax calculation and accruals, gift card and revenue recognition, and other accrued expenses.
  • Review finance/operating leases, prepare monthly ASC 842 rent entries and schedules, complete escrow reconciliations, and coordinate with legal for new restaurant lease activity.
  • Comply with local and state sales and use reporting requirements and tax filings.
  • Proactively review related accounting policies, procedures, and systems for efficiency and effectiveness on an ongoing basis, and recommend updates and improvements to those policies, procedures, and systems; identify process improvements and assist in implementation of improvements.
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
  • Lead change by recognize that change is essential, set goals for change, and lead purposeful adaptations to work that align with the companies stated vision.

·       Participate in the monthly financial close including preparation of monthly balance sheet and income statement analysis

·       Analyze and report on balance sheet variances for actuals compared to prior year and income statement variances for actuals compared to budget/forecast and prior year

·       Work on ad hoc projects as needed, such as implementation of technology tools

ORGANIZATION RELATIONSHIPS

This position reports to the Accounting Manager and is part of the accounting team, under the overall Finance department.   

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Educational Level/Certifications

·       Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance

·       Master’s degree or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred or actively pursuing

Minimum Work Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Minimum 5-7 years’ experience in corporate or public accounting
  • Experience in a public company reporting environment.

·       Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and experience with general ledger, financial close process, and account reconciliations

·       Sales & use tax experience, a plus

  • Strong attention to detail, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities simultaneously in a deadline driven environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

·       Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications; Proficient in Microsoft Excel formulas and functionality

·       Think critically by seeking information, critically evaluate information, apply knowledge, and solve problems

·       Ability to adapt quickly and learn new tasks independently
