Job Details

Oversees the development of new restaurant construction projects by directing the general contract job superintendents, coordinating architectural and civil plans, obtaining building permits, engaging in site visits, and coordinating the turnover of the project to Operations.  Participates in the development process by assisting the real estate team with review of test fits, landlord letters of work, due diligence, and scheduling.  Participates in the estimating process for new restaurants. 

·       Conducts site visits to document whether construction general contractors are completing their work obligations in a timely manner and to ensure that the quality and condition of the work meets Portillo’s Quality standards. 

·       Conducts in-office permit application, including all permit comments in construction plans, utilities and inspections, and plan review through communication with contractors, developers, and municipalities. 

·       Performs in-office project administration duties (i.e. processes change orders and applications for payment; updates project development reports).  

·       Works closely with the New Restaurant Opening team staff and Operations to coordinate building turnover dates, building orientations, warranty related issues and construction defects. 

·       Verifies and approves invoices and contract expenses. 

·       Performs other duties as required.

ORGANIZATION RELATIONSHIPS

This position reports to the Vice President of Construction & Facilities and works closely with other departments involved in the Development process including real estate, legal, property management, facility services, New Restaurant Openings (NRO), and Operations.   The position will work very closely with our in-house and third-party architects and pre-development consultant during the design process and with general contractors during bidding, bid clarification, contract award, construction, and turnover.  The next down-stream customer of this role’s efforts is the New Restaurant Opening Team and Operations. 

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Educational Level/Certifications

·       Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, or construction management preferred

Minimum Work Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

·       8-10 years experience as a project or construction manager for a multi-unit operator; or equivalent combination or education and experience.

·       Familiarity with ProCore is a benefit, or demonstrated ability to learn new software tools

Travel Requirement

  • Travel up to 50%

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

·       Computer skills –Word, Excel; experience with ProCore is a benefit but not required

·       Excellent written and oral communication including negotiating skills.

·       Supervisory skills.

·       Thorough knowledge of construction terminology, materials, blueprints, and techniques.

·       Basic knowledge of kitchen equipment

·       Basic knowledge of restaurant operations

·       Organizational and prioritizing skills

·       Strong analytical and decision making skills.to an everchanging and fast paced environment

  • None required

Work Experience and Qualification

  • Multi-unit experience (e.g. retail, hospitality, restaurant)
  • Multi-state employer experience.
