A birthday wish has just come true for Portillo's fans, thanks to the launch of the new Portillo's Birthday Club customer appreciation program. April 2015 marks the restaurant's 52nd birthday and to celebrate, Portillo's is giving away slices of its famous chocolate cake to customers on their own birthdays.
Beginning April 27, Portillo's lovers can head to Portillos.com/FreeCake and sign up to become a Birthday Club member; parents can also sign their kids up as members. On their special day, Birthday Club members can stop by a local Portillo's restaurant to enjoy a free piece of chocolate cake, baked fresh daily at every restaurant.
Along with its authentic Chicago-style hot dogs and Italian beef sandwiches, fans across the country have been buzzing about Portillo's chocolate cake for its moist sweetness and decadent chocolate frosting. While the chocolate cake recipe has never been revealed by Portillo's, it is known for being made with one special ingredient: love.
"Give the customer what they ask for -- that's what we've always said at Portillo's," said founder Dick Portillo. "We wanted to give our customers something we know they'd enjoy. We are proud of our famous chocolate cake and excited to make our fans' birthdays a little sweeter, too."
"The Portillo's chocolate cake debuted 28 years ago and it has been fun to see how much people love it all these years later," said Portillo's Director of Marketing, Nicholas Scarpino. "We're thrilled to share our chocolate cake with our customers on their birthdays."
Since Portillo opened his first hot dog stand in 1963, the Chicago-born restaurant menu has grown to include hot dogs, Italian beef sandwiches, char-grilled burgers and fresh salads. This year, Portillo's will be bringing its iconic menu to several new cities throughout Illinois, including Rockford in June.
Portillo's restaurants are also located in Tempe and Scottsdale, AZ; Buena Park and Moreno Valley, CA; and Merrillville, IN. Portillo's ships food to all 50 states via Portillos.com.
