Meet Christine, Assistant Controller and one of our many success stories! Blog Title

How long have you been with Portillo’s and what made you come work for us?

I started at Portillo’s in 2016 and I joined the Company because of all the potential that I thought it had. I was really excited about a Company that might be publicly traded one day and all the experience that I might get in doing that.

What do you love about Portillo’s?

I love the culture and the family that we have here. The days are sometimes long and tough, but enjoying the people you work with makes it worthwhile.

What was your first position here and what position did you get promoted to?

I was Accounting Manager from 2016-2021, Senior Manager of Accounting and Reporting from 2021-2023 and am now Assistant Controller.

What do you love about your position?

I love that we are constantly challenged by something new and exciting, whether it be figuring out how to account for an advertising campaign, or the IPO or even our most current challenge – our new ERP.  I’m never bored.

What advice would you give to someone at Portillo’s looking to move up?

Work hard. Ask Questions. Be responsive. Be visible.

Where do see yourself growing in this company?

I have grown so much in the last 7 years and I’m just always looking to expand my skillset into different areas of accounting. I don’t have my next role in mind yet, but rather just getting comfortable with this current stage.

Quick Bio as a ref: I have been with Portillo’s for 7 years and have played a crucial role in championing change, which has propelled me from my initial role as Accounting Manager (2016-2021) to Senior Manager of Accounting and Reporting (2021-2023) to my current role as Assistant Controller. I assisted the company in growing from a private entity to a publicly traded company and am responsible for general accounting, accounts payable, external SEC reporting, technical accounting, and internal controls. I lead the efforts on producing timely and accurate financial reporting along with managing multiple projects that will prepare us for our future growth and I have received two Heart of Portillo’s awards for my collaboration efforts across the organization.
