National Hot Dog Week begins July 19 through July 25—and if you’ve been to our restaurants, you know just how big of a dill our hot dogs are! We are using this week as an opportunity to celebrate the menu item that started it all for Portillo’s—hot dogs!
In 1963, Portillo’s founder Dick Portillo opened up a small trailer called “The Dog House,” where he had a short menu comprised exclusively of hot dogs, French fries, tamales and soft drinks. We’ve come a long way from that small trailer in Villa Park, IL, now operating more than 60 restaurants nationwide and selling more than 1.2 million hot dogs per month.
As we continue to grow, so does the love for ordering our hot dogs Chicago-style! More than half of our guests drag their dog through the garden of classic trimmings: mustard, relish, onion, tomato, pickle, sport pepper and celery salt.
There are plenty of ways to celebrate the week! Click here to learn more about the Portillo’s Pupparazzi Giveaway for a chance to win free Portillo’s pet swag, and start placing your hot dog orders online at portillos.com!
