Italian Beef Sandwich Kit (Serves 8-10)

We are huge fans of Portillos for years but I wanted to provide some constructive criticism of the latest shipment which some changes in the packaging and rolls. I don’t like that they are using half size rolls and that they have separate gravy but one large container for all the beef. These two changes definitely take something away from the sandwich experience and the defrosting process. Still great sandwiches but I don’t like these recent changes.

Please have beef split into two packages like before instead of one package like this year. Doesn’t allow you to freeze just half the order.

Love these sandwiches, only wish we had a Portillo's nearby. I wish you could order the the sausages for delivery however it's not an option as an add on, not sure why. The don't provide enough sweet peppers IMO 10 to 12 ounces would be better.

I would not recommend this to anyone due to the fact that Portillos changed the bread to half sandwiches. It is the first time I have had the new bread. There was absolutely nothing wrong by serving the original bread with 8 rolls. The 16 half rolls is absolutely horrible. Portillos really screwed up by changing the bread for the shop and ship. I have ordered this about 50 times over the years. The bread change will make me start searching for a different option as the bread was what made it authentic. Portillos needs to seriously reconsider at least giving people the option of the original 8 count full sandwich bread rolls as a choice as its 100% better then the tiny half rolls that was changed to. I will be looking at other companies from now on unless you change back to the original rolls.

Portillo‘s is usually good and we order accordingly for two separate dinners. Unfortunately, the buns are much shorter than they used to be. Which I miss the regular size. Also, the gravy was split up in the two containers. Great! The buns were split up into two containers. Great! But the beef was in one large pack of 2 1/2 pounds. Not easy to cut that in half and refreeze it. Very disappointed. It used to be so convenient the way it was package. But not anymore. We may have to try something different next time…. Not a big fan of the changes.

Second time ordered and none of the sweet peppers were included. Just the hot ones. Both times no peppers. I love the meat and bread. Bummed about the peppers. I will order again!

I’ve been ordering twice a year since I moved here since I can’t find a good Italian beef or sausage. A few comments on the most recent package. First, I like downsizing the buns, it makes easier to portion. Second, upsizing the beef and giardiniera (was 2 packages, now they’re 1) makes it harder to stretch and keep from spoiling (I don’t serve a party, this is for my own lunches and dinners). Third, I loved the beef and sausage combo because I could enjoy Italian sausage sandwiches and make sausage and (green) pepper spaghetti sauce. Will keep ordering but would like even more!

After living in Illinois for over 10 years, Portillos was a Great Place to Eat. One of the Big Things on Ordering is the ability to order extra products: You should Offer the Customer the ability to order more SWEET PEPPERS if they want them. There is plenty of Beef in the package but NOT enough SWEET PEPPERS. Also, if possible offer a Mild or Medium Hot giardiniera, what comes with the package is just WAY TO HOT for my pallet! But, the big thing is ordering more Sweet Peppers! This is a great package. 5 STARS Thank You.

Chicago is our home town and our grown kids love to have our favorite Italian Beefs during the holidays. It's become a tradition. Shipping makes it so easy. Thanks Portillo's!!!

Customer should have the choice of full or half rolls. Customer should have the choice of mild or hot giardiniera. Beef should be split into two packages - like the gravy is divided into two. You stopped putting the instructions in the package but you still sent a hat?

While I love the flavor the beef was quite fatty. Plus more au jus is better than less - the amount provided for 1 order of beef was just not enough. And the giardiniera bottle top came loose during shipping - a bit of an oil mess in cooler container.

This was perfect to have the week of Thanksgiving, we didn't have to worry about cooking when the family all arrived in town on Sunday. Portillo's provided everything we needed - we just needed to get cheese. Everyone enjoyed the italian beef sandwiches. It was nice to have a piece of Chicago in AL.

We moved from Illinois to Tennessee, and miss going into the restaurant. But, still order it for special occasions. My wife and I grew up with Portillos!!! They need to build one in Nashville!!!!!!

As always, delicious. Tasted just like it does when ordered in store! 10/10 would highly recommend.

Although I love Portillo's sandwiches I am very disappointed by the miniature rolls! I may not order again. We had decided to always have some sandwiches available in the freezer and would order another batch immediately when these are gone, but I'm not sure now whether we will do that.

I love this kit. It's amazing. I wish you would separate out the meat packages like you did the gravy.

I grew up in the Chicago area where Italian beef sandwiches are popular. They re much harder to find in the Atlanta area where I live now. For the 3rd time, I ordered Italian Beef for my family's thanksgiving dinner. It's a special treat. The quality of the mail ordered sandwiches is good and I'm sure I'll be ordering them again.

I like the gravy in the two bags vs. the plastic tubs. More convenient to save half for another meal. This was great and smooth delivery as always.

Food quality was terrific. We had two issues though. The sweet peppers were missing; we tore the packing apart but they weren’t there. and you used to provide instructions. Now there’s a QR code (not saving paper!) but it goes to videos of assembling the sandwiches but no step by step instructions corresponding to the gravy, meat, and bread reheating. We guessed from memory but would have preferred instructions (paper or online fine).

My husband is from Chicago and Portillo’s was always a treat when we’d visit, but having the opportunity to have it shipped to us (over 1500 miles away) and eat it with friends and family, is something we always look forward to. We all agree the taste is as amazing as restaurant. They’ve done a great job with the entire process (from purchasing, shipping, quality and ease to prepare) —we will surely plan to order again and again for more special occasions.
