On December 8, 2020, the city of Springfield, IL, welcomed its first Portillo’s to the state’s capital. Fans lined up in the drive-thru hours before opening to be able to be among the first in the area to enjoy our signature Chicago-style hot dogs, Italian beef sandwiches and more.
Like much of 2020, this opening was a little different. To prioritize the health and well-being of our teams and guests as well as abide by local mandates, the restaurant opened for drive-thru business only. But that didn’t stop the city of Springfield from turning up for a taste! While fans couldn’t see the smiles under Team Members’ masks, they could feel the excitement to serve the community.
Once the dining room opens, guests will be able to enjoy the restaurant’s diner theme, which pays homage to Route 66. Inside, guests will find custom-designed artwork, a jukebox, and other retro elements that evoke a sense of nostalgia.
