How long have you been with Portillo’s, and what made you come work for us?
I have been with Portillo’s for an amazing three years and couldn’t be any happier with the choice to join this family. Roughly three and a half years ago, I happened to receive a message from a mentor and friend on the same day that I saw a posting for an assistant general manager position with Portillo’s online. We connected later that day and talked about the opportunities and growth potential within Portillo’s, and as they say, it was kismet. I am forever grateful for Meghan Thornton for thinking of me and providing me with this opportunity.
What do you love about Portillo’s?
The thing I love the most about Portillo’s is the values of the company, especially the family value. For me, working in a place in which you can build true connections with others who strive for and share in your development is exceptional. During my three years, Portillo’s has invested in my development by allowing me to learn and assist at other locations. They have allowed me to enroll in the Better Up coaching program that has provided me with great insight as a leader, and they have also helped me connect with a great mentor within the company. I strive every day to bring the same energy to my team and their own development that has been shown to me.
What was your first position here, and what position did you get promoted to?
My first position with Portillo’s was the AGM at #51, Normal, and I was promoted to the GM of #48, Champaign.
What do you love about your position?
The things I love most about my position are developing others and helping them grow. Being the product of internal promotions within my restaurant career, I have always believed that the best and most invested leaders are those who have the opportunity to grow within their role.
What advice would you give to someone at Portillo’s looking to move up?
Never be afraid of improving yourself, and strive for greatness every day.
Where do see yourself growing in this company?
As I continue to develop my career, I hope to become a Market Manager and a leader who others can look up to for advice and support.
