Announcing the Heart of Portillo's Fund

At Portillo’s, we live by four values: Family, Greatness, Energy and Fun. Our organization has put our family first during these unprecedented times, making sure we have each other’s backs and prioritize the health and well-being of our front-line Team Members. People are the heart of Portillo’s, and we’re continually adjusting and doing what we can to protect our people. We’d love for you to join the team.

The Heart of Portillo’s Fund
We have launched The Heart of Portillo’s Fund. This charitable fund within the Portillo’s organization will provide emergency assistance to eligible Portillo’s Team Members facing financial hardship due to unavoidable situations.

We want to thank members of the Portillo’s family who have already contributed to the fund. And, importantly, we want to thank Uber Eats and our generous guests who have supported our Team Members through their platform. Through the delivery app’s Restaurant Employee Relief Fund, guests have had the option to donate to restaurants at checkout. These contributions are going directly to support our Team Members in need through the fund, and we thank you for your support.

Health and Well Being
We strive to create lifelong memories for both our guests and our Team Members, and that means a commitment to providing a safe, welcoming workplace. So what does that look like for Portillo’s?

  • Portillo’s has always had intensive cleaning and sanitation processes and procedures. We’ve doubled down on those efforts and provide ongoing training to make our restaurants as clean and safe as ever.
  • Portillo’s has made a number of investments on safety and sanitation supplies within our restaurants. We’ve secured gloves and masks for all Team Members, and made sure Team Members have individual headsets, rain gear and safety vests, so there is no sharing.
  • We’ve secured sanitizer stations, hand sanitizer sprays and other safety supplies.
  • We’ve revamped our processes and layouts to facilitate proper social distancing inside the restaurant and out and quickly trained our teams to be able to execute Portillo’s Greatness while socially distanced.
  • We continue to enforce that Team Members who are not feeling well should stay home. We also conduct temperature checks and a health questionnaire before every shift.

While our guests don’t see the changes we’ve made in the kitchen, they might recognize some of the changes we made to protect both them and our Team Members working the drive-thru. We’ve made signs to encourage our guests to use credit and debit cards instead of cash. As some of our dining rooms reopen with limited capacity, we’ve also asked our guests to help keep our teams safe by wearing masks upon entering, limiting their party size, and not coming in when ill.

Even as we’ve put these heightened efforts in place, our teams are still showing great energy and having fun. They are joking around with each other. They are creating Tik Tok videos. They are enjoying their time at work.
